Brunello di Montalcino Bramante 2014

Brunello di Montalcino Bramante 2014

Sanlorenzo’s finest grapes are devoted to Bramante a very fine Brunello di Montalcino, the result is a perfect combination of terroir, vineyard and winemaking. It is an incredibly elegant and intense wine, able to express itself at its best over time. It is vinified in stainless steel vats at controlled temperature and then aged in wooden barrels . After bottling the wine ages 4 months before it is released on the market. After five years Bramante has a great variety in its bouquet and an unique
combination of tastes that unveil with great effect. The colour is dark garnet red, the wine’s bouquet is generous with hints of dry flowers, spices and ripe fruit.
The wine has a great structure, good tannins of perfect extraction and a long finish. This Brunello is best paired with game, Fiorentina and Tagliata steak and aged pecorino cheese. Bramante is released on the market in the February of the 5th year after harvest in 0,75 and 1,5 l bottles.

Surely my harder harvest of the last few years. A difficult climate with rain and below-average temperatures that have been the main line from June to September.
May and June were rainy, temperatures between the average and below average, it was difficult to contain the peronospera and I did not always succeed.
The flowering began on June 5, late with the average of the last years
The flowering goes well enough and between June 15th and 18th ended
In July it continues to rain and temperatures remain below average
First mention of veraison on 23 July but uniformly from the beginning of August
August and the first twenty days of September have an atypical climate, a little hot sun does not keep the temperatures below average and it slows down both the veraison and the maturation after. In addition to this, the numerous rains start to leave the molds and the feeling that the vintage is very complicated is more and more real. It starts with a first thinning of the grapes on August 20 then in September another step to remove an additional 20-30% of grapes, trying to save the salvable.
The climate that has been hostile all year has graced us from the end of September to the 10th of October with hot and sunny days and this has allowed the grapes to mature well. The harvest was October 9th and 10th the grapes that had remained on the vines were mostly healthy and well ripe, the sugar content and the good phenolic ripeness.

Reviews for this wine:

Intravino: San Lorenzo – sour cherries, juniper, English pipe tobacco, resins, full mouth, rich and sweetly whispered. Fruity background that pushes and satisfies. 93

Gardininotes: 94+  BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO BRAMANTE 2014This is a very intense and veracious Brunello interpretation, coming from
an historically complicated grape harvest. Its solid nose reveals scents of
toasted dry fruit and an orange-peel aftertaste. The tannic sensation during
the drinking is very incisive, not excessively corpulent but quite simple, kind of a marathon runner.
